What is the BC PNP Tech Program?

The BC PNP Tech Program was created in response to a labor market evaluation that highlighted the technology sector’s greatest obstacle: the need for skilled talent in British Columbia. Initially launched as a pilot project in May 2017, the program’s success led to its permanent establishment. Its purpose is to enable technology firms in British Columbia to attract and select highly skilled professionals from overseas when there is a scarcity of qualified individuals locally.

What is the eligibility criteria needed for BC PNP?

The BC PNP program has specific eligibility criteria, particularly for the BC PNP Tech stream, which provides a fast-track immigration route for foreign students and in-demand tech professionals. To be eligible, candidates must have a valid job offer for at least 12 months in one of the 29 qualifying occupations and be registered under one of BC’s provincial immigration streams.

Unlike other BC PNP streams, individuals applying through the BC PNP Tech stream must have at least 120 days remaining on their current employment contract. Moreover, the job offer must be from a qualifying employer located anywhere in the province and must be for a full-time position.

How to apply for BC Tech PNP?

To apply for the BC Tech PNP, prospective candidates need to follow these steps:
  • Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria, including having a valid job offer for at least 12 months in one of the 29 qualifying tech occupations and meeting the requirements of one of BC’s provincial immigration streams.
  • Submitting the Application: Complete and submit a comprehensive application to be considered for provincial nomination. The BC PNP Tech program regularly issues invitations to top-scoring applicants who meet the program’s requirements.
  • Waiting Period: After submitting the application, it typically takes two to three months for tech applications to be processed and approved.
  • Nomination Confirmation: Successful candidates will receive a nomination confirmation from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This confirmation allows them to apply for permanent residence under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Class.
  • Express Entry System: Candidates who receive a nomination from the BC Tech PNP gain a significant advantage in the Express Entry system. They automatically receive 600 points added to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, substantially increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
By following these steps and meeting the program’s requirements, applicants have a great opportunity to secure permanent residence in Canada through the BC Tech PNP.
