Who can apply?

With the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190), individuals are granted the opportunity to permanently reside and work in Australia. However, their nomination must be endorsed by the State or Territory government. The Department of Home Affairs issues the visa invitation in response to the nomination.

Requirement of a two-year commitment:

If the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) recommends an applicant for a 190 visa, they are required to live and work in Canberra for a minimum of two years after obtaining the visa. For individuals migrating from outside Canberra, the two-year commitment starts from their date of arrival in Canberra.

Skilled Regional Work Visa (subclass 491): Skilled workers have the opportunity to live and work in regional Australia for a period of five years. To be eligible, they must be nominated by a state or territorial agency. The Department of Home Affairs issues the visa invitation based on the nomination received.

Two-year commitment:

If an applicant is recommended by the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) for a 491 visa, they are required to live and work in Canberra for a minimum of two years after obtaining the visa. This applies to individuals immigrating from outside of Australia as well, with a two-year commitment starting from their date of arrival in Canberra.
