Impact of a labor strike on IRCC Immigration Process

As per the words of Mr. Chris Aylward, National President of the Public Services Alliance of Canada, the largest federal public service union in the nation has warned that if a deal with the government isn’t struck by Tuesday at 9 P.M. (EST), it would go on strike the following day.

About 159,000 employees, including 35,000 from the Canada Revenue Agency, are reportedly ready to quit their jobs starting on Wednesday, according to the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

The Canadian government is dedicated to establishing collective agreements that are reasonable for taxpayers and fair to workers.

A labor disruption could have an impact on some services.

Services that are to continue without disruption maintained

In the event of a labor disruption, some IRCC services will remain available. You would still be able to:
  • Submission of online application
  • Mailing applications to IRCC
  • Using online accounts, and
  • Access to emergency services

These services are offered by non-governmental organizations and would still be available:
  • Settlement services from IRCC’s partner organizations
  • Health care through the Interim Federal Health Program, and
  • Visa application centers outside of Canada
Services that are to be partially or fully disrupted

Most IRCC services would be affected by a labor interruption, just like the majority of Government of Canada services. Delays are to be anticipated with:
  • Processing of visa applications
  • In-person appointments or events including citizenship ceremonies
  • Contacting IRCC via email, phone, or social media
  • Consular citizenship and passport services
  • Passport services in Canada
Labor disruptions

The Canadian government is dedicated to drafting collective agreements that are just for public employees and affordable for taxpayers.

Collective agreements are now being negotiated between the Canadian government and PSAC. The Union of Taxation Employees (PSAC-UTE) and the Canada Revenue Agency (a distinct employer) are also in talks. This totals roughly 159,000 employees who provide the general public with a range of services.

Should immigrants be worried?

No, you can easily create your profile for Canada PR online and apply for it if you’re a prospective immigrant who plans to or has already applied for Canada Permanent Residence. This is because the Canadian government and the PSAC are currently in negotiations and working to reach a quick resolution. Your applications can be sent to IRCC by mail.

AAIP makes it easier for the in-demand workers to get Canada PR

Alterations to make it simpler for in-demand workers and entrepreneur to get Canada permanent residence.

1. Dedicated Healthcare Pathway

  • In 2023, this pathway, which is part of the Alberta Express Entry Stream, will consume up to 30% of the Express Entry allocations available.
  • Professionals in the following fields are qualified: doctors, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, physician assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and clinical social workers.
  • In order to be able to practice medicine in Alberta, qualified healthcare professionals must have a job offer from an employer working in the province's healthcare industry and must possess verifiable documentation of their compliance with the regulatory body's minimum standards.

2. AAIP Rural Entrepreneur Stream – Minimum Investment Criteria

The necessary minimum investment for applications has been lowered from $200,000 to $100,000, making it more competitive with other entrepreneur streams.

3. AAIP Rural Renewal Stream – The Community Designation Application Procedure has been modified to remove the Settlement Organization Endorsement Letter

  • The removal of this step simplifies the application procedure for community designation.
  • To demonstrate that sufficient resources are in place to successfully welcome immigrants, communities must still prepare a settlement plan as part of the designation application process.

4. Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP)

  • The EMPP will now include the AAIP as a participant.
  • The EMPP was created to facilitate the immigration of refugees through current economic programs who possess the skills and credentials required in Canada.
  • The AAIP is collaborating with the federal government to carry out the pilot and expand its annual nominations using this exceptional chance.
  • More information regarding implementation will be made available in the upcoming months.
